COMFORT DOG MINISTRY

We have our very own Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog, Salome! Salome is a purebred Golden Retriever who trained for over 2 years and for more than 2,000 hours before being placed here at Faith Community. Team Salome and Faith Community Lutheran Church is an affiliate member of Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry.

PURPOSE: TO BRING THE MERCY, COMPASSION, PRESENCE, AND PROCLAMATION OF JESUS CHRIST TO THOSE SUFFERING AND IN NEED.

MISSION STATEMENT: INVITING PEOPLE TO KNOW JESUS, WITH SALOME, AS A BRIDGE TO MINISTRY.

MINISTRY DESCRIPTION: Through this ministry, we hope to serve God by serving others. This ministry is intended to comfort the hurting and bring joy to all. Our Comfort Dog, Salome, opens doors for others to know Jesus through our actions. When the opportunity presents itself, we will gladly talk and pray about the “reason for the hope that [we] have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

The Comfort Dog ministry also serves our congregation, our schools, the local community, and the nation. When invited, we will go beyond Las Vegas to share this ministry with other interested organizations. We will console those who are hurting after disasters and crises, and we will partner with LCC staff during disaster response.

WHERE WE SERVE: hospitals, casinos, nursing homes, schools, resource centers, childrens' programs, first responder stations, griefshare, veteran programs, and more!

ABOUT SALOME

In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there. Mark 15:41

Salome’s name is from Mark, chapters 15 and 16. Salome was one of the women who attended Christ’s crucifixion and was also one of the women who found Jesus’ empty tomb. Salome, along with Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus were not able to defend Jesus before the Sanhedrin, they couldn’t quiet the crowds, they couldn’t convince the Roman guards to free Jesus, but they never left Jesus’ side. They did what they could. When Jesus’ disciples were nowhere to be found, these women were there, caring for Jesus’ needs. These women faced obstacles, but served Jesus with love and gratitude. As God blessed these women and their devotion, we pray for God’s blessing on our Ministry. We pray that God guides us and helps us to do what we can, wherever we can in providing the comfort, mercy, presence, and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those suffering and in need.
