Faith Community Lutheran Church and Schools will be hosting the Change the World School of Prayer, by Greg Greenwood on Saturday, February 21. This event is open to anyone and will be city-wide.
You may register by purchasing tickets in the church office Mon - Fri or following the worship services at Faith, or you may purchase tickets online by clicking here.You may also register with a credit card by calling 1-800-423-5054

The School of Prayer is a multi-hour prayer training course that has equipped two million Christians in more than 120 nations on untapping the secrets of a delightful new intimacy with God in prayer, every day!
The topics include:
How to pray with spiritual authority that moves mountains!
How to pray with joy and meaning - no matter how you feel!
How to grow in a delightful new intimacy with God, every day!
How to praise God in fresh biblical patterns!
The cost is $15. It includes lunch, a light breakfast, the book and accompanying study guide. This is the perfect material for small groups, couples, families and individuals.

Please join us in sending the love of Jesus and Faith Community Lutheran to Troops all over the world. If you have a loved one or friend serving that you would like to receive a gift of love please give us their name and mailing address. If you want to donate to the project we need the following: Shoe boxes, baked goods, bags of wrapped pieces of candy, $$ for postage & tissue paper. Donations can be dropped off in the church office. The deadline for donations is Tuesday the 27th of January. We will be putting together the care packages on Thursday, January 29th at 5:00pm in the Family Life Center. We have over 40 people registered on the Faith team "Groovin on Grace" ranging from the very young to the "very young at heart".

We need blankets, coats, gloves, hats and clothing of all kinds... for all ages.
A local pastor that minsters directly to the people on the street called last week. He explained how one of "his friends" literally froze to death. He is in need of all kinds of clothing but especially cold weather clothing. We appreciate any gently used clothing of any size!
You can drop your donations off in the church narthex/ lobby anytime.

Caring Kidz of Faith Lutheran Academy
The academy children are currently focusing on a program within the Pacfic Southwest District that gives grants to urban children in the Los Angles area, enabling them to attend Lutheran Schools. This program is called the "Grantparent" program.
We have challenged the children to think of different ways they can can sacrifice something in their lives to raise money for the weekly chapel offerings, which 100% of goes towards the Grantparent program until February 25. We are encouraging the children to think of different ideas and joyfully carry them out.
We are sharing some of the ideas they came up with but we are honoring the privacy of those who would like to keep this between God and themselves.

Our annual Congregational Meal & Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 25th after our 11:00 a.m. service. The meal will be held in the Family Life Center, followed by the Voter’s Meeting in the sanctuary. One purpose of the meeting will be to approve our ministry budget for the 2009/2010 Fiscal Year. The other purpose will be to share an update on ministry challenges and opportunities that are being considered as we seek God’s will for the best way to carry out our mission of “inviting people to know Jesus” and expand our ministries, staff and facilities.

Classes for 3rd-5th graders and their parents will be held on Wednesdays from 6:45 – 7:30 pm. These classes will prepare our young people for receiving communion. Their First Communion will be at the Palm Sunday Service (April 5th, 11 a.m.) or at the Maundy Thursday Service (April 9th, 7:00 p.m.)

Easter Witness Gift Baskets

We are collecting Easter Baskets for the impoverished children of Las Vegas from March 1st through April 1st. Our hope is to bring lasting joy to children by adding fun items to teach children about the true meaning of Easter in how God demonstrated His love for us through Jesus. The materials will be purchased by the Faith Academy students through chapel offerings while the 1st Communion students will be adding these materials into each basket as their service event on April 1st. Kids sharing with kids.
If you would like to participate we are asking that you tear a paper egg off the display in the Narthex and bring an Easter Basket that is appropriate for the specified age and gender. You may purchase a pre-packed basket or make your own. For more information email Linda or call 921-2700.
March Painting Madness

Ron Evans who heads the division within the Urban League that deals with helping low income seniors has planned a community project day on Saturday, March 28th at 7am.
He plans to paint the exterior of ten homes for low income seniors. He has informed us that he was having trouble getting volunteers within the city to do the painting. What an awesome opportunity for Faith to stand in the gap for Las Vegas.
Clean-up Project Day: Building bridges into our community
Partnering with Las Vegas Clark County Urban League
Saturday, March 28th at 7am – all day event
- 5-10 volunteers per home (we furnish brushes and rollers) single story track homes
- Families with children are invited to come and do light yard work (pulling weeds, raking, clean up)
- 1200 square feet homes
- Occupants are 70 or older and mostly women
- Most houses will be completed in 4-6 hours
- When done, each team will continue to another site until all homes are done.
- Painting homes near the MLK Senior Center
What is provided:
- Coffee, Danish, Water, Sodas and Lunch
- T-Shirts
- Team Pictures
- Paint
What do we need to bring:
- Smiles!
- Brush & Roller
- Heart for helping someone in need!

Las Vegas Career “Employment” Ministry Update…
On April 23d we were fortunate to have two gentlemen visit us from Indiana who have been leading a faith based career ministry for the past 5 years. They led a Career Ministry Leadership Seminar on Saturday the 25th and provided valuable information. There were a few congregations that sent representatives and an overall strategy was mapped out for the ministry. We are still in need of leaders to be part of this important program. If you are a Web Developer, Human Resource Specialist, Career Coach, Personnel Recruiter, Resume Writing Professional, Training Development Specialist, Marketing Manager, Organizational Development Specialist or Change Management Professional please let us know. The hope is to have the plan fully in place and seminars for those needing the ministry services to begin sometime in the summer. African Mission Clothing Drive

One of our mission churches, Salvation Lutheran Church in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa has expressed a need for gently used summer clothing for men, women and children. They are requesting any gently-used items and even said these donations are considered clothing "fit for a king".
As you may remember we helped Salvation with the rebuilding of their church that was destroyed in the war. They are beginning to build an orphanage, as many children were left without homes and families because of the war.
You may drop off your donations in the box under the world map from now until Pentecost Sunday, May 31st.

Gulf Coast Recovery Mission continues…. restoring hope and property to those affected by hurricanes. We will be traveling to Biloxi , Ms on July 11 to July 18. The cost will be $100/pp.
The number of victims still waiting to return to their homes is in the thousands. The majority of relief is now coming from faith-based organizations. God continues to put His people in the position of shining His Light in the midst of darkness – are you able to heed His call?

June Hikes
June 6 - Cathedral Rock
This is a moderately strenuous hike to an overlook of Kyle Canyon that is 1.4 miles each way and gains 1,000' elevation from the 7,600' trailhead.
June 20 - Mummy Springs
This is a moderately strenuous hike to the spring near the base of Mummy Mountain. It is reached from the North Loop trail after hiking 3.2 miles and gaining approx 1,600' elevation from the trailhead which is at about 8,400' and passes the "Raintree" which is an ancient Bristlecone pine estimated at over 3,000 years old. Alternatively, we can hike up Trail Canyon which adds 1/2 mile to the trip each way but still passes the "raintree".
Meeting Times: 7 am departure from the NE corner of the Faith Community parking area (near our bus). Please let Jim know if you expect to join us on either or both of these outings or have any questions. Also, consider inviting a friend to join us if you know someone who might be able to handle the demands of hiking at 8,000' elevation.

Pentecost Potluck….In the tradition of the Lutheran Church it’s time for a POTLUCK!!!!! To celebrate Pentecost Sunday we will have a wonderful variety of international participation during worship. To carry on the global theme we ask that families participating in the potluck bring a dish that represents their ethnic heritage.
