Prayerfully consider joining Faith's united - yet individual - fast/prayer group this Lent. Choose days between 2/17 - 4/3
We will be doing a group fast/prayer during Lent. Fasting with prayer is an extremely powerful tool to draw us closer to the Lord and grow in discernment. You may choose to fast once during Lent, once a week or all 40 days. You can choose to just drink water, or any liquids or maybe eat only fruits and vegetables. Each person fasts differently and however you do it is fine - it's a very personal thing between you and our Lord. There is no right or wrong answer. If this is your 1st fast you may want to try it for 12 hours, or skip 1 meal (especially great for kids).
A few suggestions to ensure a successful fast:
- Pray and ask the Lord for a successful fast that will bring you closer to Him and give you more discernment the day before you fast - thank Him in faith for the victory!
- Timid or not-so-sure: try it for 1 or 2 meals or from sun-up to sundown. For the brave-hearted and seasonal fasters: try it for 24 hours....or more. For the sake of the church-wide fast - we are considering one day from midnight to midnight.
- Every time you have hunger pangs - pray!
- Instead of meal time - pray!
- Memorize some short Bible verses you can think or verbalize when temptation and hunger strikes (or keep a few written ones handy)
- Try and set aside some extra time toward the end of your fast for reading God's Word and allow the Lord to speak into your heart
- God is faithful and will meet you wherever you are - if this is your 1st time just take that 1st step but listen and see if He doesn't beckon you to delve deeper on that day or another day. Before you know it you may make fasting and praying a regular part of your journey in Christ.
